Helen Wren, 73, passed away to the Lord, at her home in Carrabelle Beach on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.
Helen graduated from Barelett High School in Tennessee and attended Memphis State University. She married the love of her life, Elmo Wren, in 1974.They moved to Destin in 1977 where they lived until they made Carrabelle their home in 1996. This month they celebrated 44-years of marriage.
Helen was an artist, photographer and journalist. She has received Florida Press Awards in sports writing and feature photography. She was the executive director of the Destin Fishing Rodeo for many years and started her own newspaper, with her best friend in Destin, to cover more fishing news.
Helen loved to spend time fishing in Destin and travelling to Mexico with her husband and son to shellfish for three months in the spring.
Helen loved her family and is survived by her husband: Elmo Wren; her son: Jeff Wren and wife Kim; her stepson: Mare Wren and wife Perri; her stepdaughter: Virginia Wren; her brother: Hank Pommer and his wife Lori; and grandchildren: Nathan, Melissa, Jessica, Nikki, Sean, Leah and Emma; and great-grandchildren: Annesleigh, Hayden, Damien, Rylie, Ella and Holden.
Helen was cremated, in accordance with her wishes. The family will host a private celebration of her life on Saturday, December 8, 2018.
